Heading back to Plattsville, taking some backroads to avoid the traffic.

Where are we today?
clic on a pic to enlarge it
It was another cold morning, but no frost. We were at my Daughter's in Aurora Ontario for the night. A great visit with the family again. We stayed there last night to avoid the holiday weekend traffic travelling home last night.
But... we waited until 9 am, after the grands headed off to school and the rush hour traffic would be done. Back roads to hwy 400 then south to the 401 and west to Plattsville was our plan. We crossed over hwy 400 and planned to hop on and head south.  NOT ! Looking north and south all 3 lanes were at a stand still.  No turn here, lets take the scenic route. GPS was not co-operating so back to the paper maps. The way we used to travel. Taking the not busy back roads through a few small towns and villages (roads we have not travelled for over 20 years). We got to practice our navigational skills once again. In preparation for our southern migration in 8 days. It ended up a very nice scenic route and only about 25 minutes longer that the main highway. Sure beats sitting and not moving in the traffic.
it was a very nice drive today
and hardly any traffic at all
love the quiet back roads
We back home in Plattsville by 11:30 in time to make a bite for lunch. We opened the rv door and was much colder than outside 51f Inside 64F outside. Lets turn the heat on for a bit and warm things up. 20 minutes later all is good.
A nice tasty light lunch then I headed off to New Hamburg, First thing to get my hearing aid fixed. In no time at all a new part was installed and I can hear again ! Me happy and Suzie even Happier ! Picked up a few supplies, stopped by Pettigrew garage in town for oil change on the car. As well as have Dale check out the shinny on the car. looks like one of our tires has a belt shifted. So I will pick up 2 new tires tomorrow and we can fix that issue. Canadian tire money for the tires so no cost to us.
Now we can actually sit outside and read for an hour or so, not too bad about 65f, sweater on and the fresh air is wonderful. Then before we know it 5 pm already! Fire up our weber Q, make a salad and grill a tasty salmon fillet for supper.
ended up not too bad of a day
The salmon on the grill about 15 minutes or so. turned out wonderful.
before
after
Oh so tasty, and some leftover salmon as well
Then as it cools down we inside for the night, read a bit, post this blog and a show on the tube. Nice and peaceful again.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit and taking the time to comment if the spirit moves you.
We head south soon Oct 20th

  1. We don't have GPS so it is only paper maps for us and we love it. Only ever made two mistakes in 16 years and it was because of signage or lack there of :)

So happy you had great family celebrations over the Thanksgiving weekend. Sad that we don't have that opportunity but we do have each other.

    1. Only GPS we have is on the phone, we mostly use paper maps or google maps, and quite often no maps.
Having each other is very important, enjoy your time together.

  2. Being able to hear is a good thing. It's nice to get things fixed before you get on the road again.

Yup getting things wrapped up before we hit the road is what we try to do.

  3. Sounds like a lovely ride the best part of this lifestyle is being able to take the time to use back roads and enjoy the ride. Wherever we are we still like to take those "Sunday" rides we both remember from our childhood.
We use Google Maps but we have an atlas and the first stop in a new state is the welcome center for a map. I like being able to see the route on paper.
We will be heading out around the same time but will not leave Michigan until the 1st of November. First stop is to spend time with our son and his family in the Detroit area, though that is heading south for us. Safe Travels.

    1. It was a nice drive and we in no hurry to get there either. We mostly use google maps at well, and could had turned on the computer, by the GPS in Suzie's I phone was not cooperating (mainly because we seldom use it). Travel safe and enjoy the Journey maybe meet up with you again in the southwest.

  4. It is nice to visit but we love it when we get back to our home, even if it is cool for a few minutes! Oft times it is the destination that matters and not so much the route to get there. Lots of nicer things to see on the back roads.

    1. Yes always nice to get back home, wherever we have it parked. We usually enjoy the journey as almost as mu=ch as the destination, think that why we love to travel.

  5. Seems like we often have GPS issues when we need it most.

    1. We never count on ours, much prefer a map. And read the road signs.

  6. Every time you want to take the back roads GPS is worthless. Paper maps are great to have.
