OOOPS!!!

Well we are finally on the road again, 9:00am getting itchy feet. And have a fairly long day ahead of us, but we are ready. 320 miles to the Flying J in Sayre Oklahoma. Suzie opens the map program and is the navigator as usual. We had been discussing various routes to get to Arizona and she opened her map program and the GPS and was leading the way. We passed under a huge McDonalds golden arch on I-44 and just knew that this had to be Mc Donald Land (a world of fantasy that we live in!) Shortly after we stopped and made lunch I asked her how come we are at mile marker 48 when we have 60 miles to go to  Sayre Oklahoma? (The mile markers end at the state line). So she investigates and (OOPPS) says we are 48 miles from Texas, "But we are not supposed to be in Texas today" I say. So with a quick check she found out that we were on the wrong route, not too far out of our way. I was wondering why we had paid tolls on this I-44 when there was not that many one and half years ago.

we are never lost, just sometimes take the scenic route
So we now reworked our route and took a much more scenic one (now 394 miles), 74 miles further than  planned.  Nice roads, small towns and rolling hills and red dirt! (we usually relate to red dirt from PEI, Canada, or even Sedona). We passed many cotton fields along the way,(looks like snow!) And villages that were almost ghost towns. Boarded up windows, closed businesses, schools and churches, almost looks like parts of Mexico without the topes (speed bumps). No hurry thou we had lotsa time, but I was  beginning to wonder if we had enough fuel. Well we did arrive at the Flying J at 3:52 pm and fueled up, 63 US gallons, our tank holds 70 so not really a lot left (at 7.5 mpg US). At $2.59 a gallon was a deal too, equal to 68.5 cents a litre and its over $1.02 a litre in Ontario saving us about $83.00 on a fillup.

Once we were parked Suzie went outside to talk and pet our neighbours, the horses in a horse trailer beside us. They were from Michigan and heading south to Arizona for a warmer winter as well. We relaxed for a bit and put the spaghetti casserole in the oven I had prepared last night, made a tossed salad and enjoyed a nice leisurely supper then a couple of shows on tv.
